Great directing from Edgar Wright. Perfect material for his brand of directing. The Sparks Brothers are a band that is revered by their peers and that really shows from this documentary. Pacing is a bit off bit with the runtime is easy to see why. I understand there is a lot of material to get through but being over 2 hours is a bit much. The cartoons and CGI are done very well and add to the overall feel of the doc. And of course the music is great.

It was really fascinating seeing the story of a band I didn’t realize was the DNA of almost every band I’ve loved since I was a little kid. The film is well paced especially for something telling a complicated 50 year history, but after childhood I never really got a sense of who Ron and Russell were as people. Maybe they prefer the enigma & that’s ok, but like, do they have families? Or are they just so committed to Sparks that anything other that being brothers fell to the wayside? As a career retrospective it was really wonderful though and it was edited nicely &I ran out of space here>
