There is no doubt that this movie is visually stunning and has some very well done set action pieces. I really did want to enjoy the movie more as the effort by the director to create something unique for the movie patron but unfortunately his effort falls flat due to a poor story and a less than inspiring performance by his male lead. For a good hour the plot doesn't move as one long section is devoted to finding and rescuing Velarian and the next long set piece goes to rescuing Laurelie. Which doesn't do anything to move the picture. The female lead was very engaging and was quite enjoyable. The male did not seem to fit the let and I could not believe his partner was interested in him at all. Most of the three stars is for the director, the visuals and the lead actress. I'm sure the film will be enjoyed by many and I am sure I will watch it or parts of it when on pay cable television.

Not the greatest movie...in 3D it is very busy and hard to focus. Seemed more like a video game than a movie. Also storyline seemed slow and long so was glad when it was over.

Amazing visual and technical aspects (special effects, makeup, costumes, sound, CGI), yet the story, characters and emotional stakes lack potency and are sonewhat predictable. Ethan Hawke and Rhianna were welcomed and captivating surprises.

Visually dazzling, but kind of tough to get through. Dane Dehaan is especially tough to watch. And the chemistry between him and Delevingne comes off as awkward. They're performances are, for the most part, joyless. And they're somewhat unbelievable as the leads.I enjoyed many parts of the film. I just didn't care for much of what was going, as it was hard to like the main characters. Disappointing for such a wildly imaginative film. Was it intentional for the film to end more or less the exact same way as The Fifth Element? With the leads making out in some sort of container, while the camera pulls out from a window looking in? Interesting choice.
