These are questions that I ask myself as an artist all the time (well not the tortured artist part…) because as we go forth into this career, we have to at times be fully devoted to what we love and that is scary because this is very much a full time of hard work, wondering if we will ever get noticed, or even deserve to for that matter, and a game of that sliver of luck of being their at the right time and place.

The incredibly charming Rudy Mancuso has written and starred in a film I found wonderful. It is set in the Brazilian community in Newark, NJ, which was a revelation to me (loved the scenes between Rudy and his mom!) The production itself is novel, with incredibly complex dance and music happening in mundane places. At times, the scene changes around Rudy as he walks a few feet into another scene entirely. The music is fabulous. There are some fraught moments and some hilarious moments along the way. I loved it.

I absolutely enjoyed it. It was really cute and held my interest. I have a couple of Brazilian friends and will be encouraging them to see the movie.

I think that this was a fun and creative movie. The themes and story line were unexpected but entertaining. I'll be watching it again as there are always things that you don't catch the first time around.
