Taking into account the violent nature of Scandinavian life in the 900’s, the film was too graphically violent for today’s audiences. Norse legends and Norse characters are too unfamiliar to most Americans, although most are familiar with the universal revenge theme of father/son e.g. Hamlet. \rThe music was hauntingly beautiful and the translation captions necessary to understand the authentic dialogue. Prediction? Not a money-maker at theaters.

While other people in the audience may have liked it, I did not. Found it to be so dark -- literally! Frequently it was difficult to see what character was on the screen.
