THE GAMBLER is nearly a total waste of time. Wahlberg's performance is boringly flat & otherwise filled with overblown, preposterous, senseless rants when he's "teaching" his literature classes. It's not a waster of his talent, since he seems to have none, but it sure wastes Jessica Lange's considerable skills.

Acting 2 stars. Plot Thin, dark, dismal. Main character's point of view all or nothingis too "Black or white" is unrealistic.
