Very good movie with great performances all around! Photography and costumes excellent and Oscar worthy...but alas what pulls this movie down is editing. It is flawed with seemingly 64 flashbacks which interrupts the flow of the movie and character development. This movie would have scored a best picture nomination if it had told the story in chronological order with only 4 flashbacks of each character and left out the 3 on screen narrations. The director got to cute & sabotaged it.

It was a lighthearted, family oriented film. The plot is relatable to ups, downs, celebrations, and struggles in families. Then it relayed a little of feminine independence in the character Josephine March when she stood up to the publisher for the copyright to her literary work. All of the girls had to find themselves and their nitch. They discovered their own place. The family support for one another was shown throughout. They all dealth with the passing of their sister in their own way.

I grew up reading the book and watching the 1994 version a million times. I really enjoyed this portrayal. I was hesitate about the timeline and jumps but I felt I got used to it halfway through - I will go into a second viewing already ready. The cast was amazing and acting was superb. I truly love the story and even more through Greta's eyes.
