This is one of the worst movies I have ever seen. SO LONG, bad storytelling. Everything was painstakingly foreshadowed; only characters in the movie were surprised. The audience lived out every scene and every movement, rather than a compact compelling story. I wish I would have walked out like others. No wonder not released widely before xmas, slide into Oscars w/out review of the people.

A strong performance by Garfield alone doesn't make up for a lack of tension, questionable script, and little to no payoff in its final act. This felt like a film that will only cater to one type of audience with no apologies. It pains me to say this about such an acclaimed director like Scorsese but I cannot recommend this film at all. Underwhelming, not very entertaining, not a crowd pleaser.

"Silence" was a dreadful waste of 2 hours, 41 minutes. It was unsatisfying, even at no cost and surely will be one of the worst films I will see for some time to come. My question is why was this even made? $50 million down the drain. The dialogue was unbearable and the story was irritating!

The movie was very slow and entirely too long. At 2 hours and 40 minutes, much could have been cut to make it move faster and more enjoyable.
