August Wilson's writing is pure art. Add two of the greatest actors of our time, Denzel Washington and Viola Davis, and you have a beautiful recipe for success. Denzel did a great job of illustrating the complex character that is Troy Maxin but Viola definitely stole the show. It was well done, but it left something to be desired. Maybe August Wilson's work is better left on stage.

It was a well done film with excellent acting. It was a part of the Black experience that I had not seen before and I found it illuminating. The film was a little too long and lost momentum so some 15-20 minutes could be taken from the middle and the film would have the same impact. It was worthwhile seeing though I wonder why at Christmas, OK I did cry at the end.
