Watching Sound of Metal was frightening in a profound way; it made me value my hearing even more than I had. I think it sensitively portrayed the deaf community, as well as the schism between them and those who seek out through cochlear implants. It missed the months of therapy that those with implants work to gain new hearing. I was also very impressed by the review in the Seattle Stranger.

I thought it was phenomenal and understated. I appreciated the complexities of Ruben's journey in the script between his navigating between communities and his relationships while coming to terms with his new life as a deaf man. \r\rThe performances were solid all across the board. All of the other elements were on point from the direction to the complex and interesting sound design to the art direction. \r\rI think I would rank this film as one of the best I have seen this year. I hope it finds it's audience!
