I went to see this movie because Idris Elba was in it. He was faboulous as always. I thought it was a good story. Which I think it is a good reason to make the movie. I thought the opening was worded by the lead actress a bit too fast. I am not sure if it would make a difference if it was slowed down a bit, but it did set a tone for the movie. I liked it. Poker, strong women, and ethics.

The film was energetic from the first scene, with dialogue that was smart and witty, but at times verbose and forced. Generally, people don’t speak how Aaron Sorkin writes, which can create unrealistical interactions between characters, and little opportunity for non-verbal character development. It was also a little anticlimactic, and 2 hours in, you’re exhausted from the sparring dialogue. Additionally, it felt like the audience didn’t buy into the idea that Molly’s dad just happend to appear at the ice skating rink (come up with a better reason than coincidence). Aside from these overly critical comments, I enjoyed the film. I think it will generally play well, more skewed to female audiences, with men enjoying it too.
