Excellent movie. Fantastic emotion despite half the dialogue being sign language. Powerful. Emotional. Wonderful.

Loved the portrayal of what a family of deaf people really look like -finally! Emilia’s singing was amazing and as soon as she started signing during the audition, I totally cried like a baby! ASL is such a powerful language, and as a former teacher of hearing impaired students, the combination of ASL and music is one of the most powerful and moving things to experience!

Emilia Jones’ poignant portrayal is so subtle and sincere, it suspends disbelief. Not only is her performance as her family’s de facto interpreter completely credible, her vocal abilities capture the raw joy of singing for someone who doesn’t realize she can really sing. Knowing Jones had to learn to sign and to sing for her role makes the authenticity of both all the more remarkable.
