This was definitely a black comedy whether by design or by accident. I love all the actors in this film but I barely laughed at this. The social commentary was fantastic however and really makes you reflect on the sad state of America today. The have and the have nots. The people working so hard in this gig economy just to be replaced by robots. The whole angel thing and trading places is pretty old hat by now. I hope it does well however because it makes you think about our fellow Americans struggling to get by living from paycheck to paycheck.

The message the film ultimately tries to make is merited, however, the mechanics and plot devices used are debatable.

GOOD FORTUNE is a lightweight comedy that succeeds mostly thanks to its winning cast. Ansari plays a sad sack who befriends rich guy Rogan. They have a falling out that leads to inept angel Gabriel (Reeves, who’s great) bumbling his way into their lives. A modern take on "It's a Wonderful Life" but the lessons Gabriel tries to impart don't have the desired effect. A few chuckles ensue. There's a love interest (Keke Palmer) for Ansari's character; what does she see in this mopey whiner? Ansari shows us how tough life is for regular folks. Subtlety isn't one of his strengths. A 2.5/4 star comedy
