Although this movie started out with a lot of promise, it only stayed interesting for the first slow-moving half-an-hour before it started to get uninteresting and stagnant. It tries to invoke Hitchcock-ian suspense but eventually fails and- at the last fifteen minutes of the movie- becomes a simple monster movie. A lot of this movie doesn't make sense and has many plot holes. It just didn't work.

Did not like it as much as I thought I would.

Inspired visuals, and Verbinski excels at eerie and grotesque, but so many story elements are confusing and messy, but don't engage enough for me to ask why.

Beautifully shot movie. Every scene is a wonder to look at. However, when it comes to plot, the movie was pretty bad. The ending felt weak and rushed and the plot twist was really figured out in the first act.
