I found the story to be captivating, but at times the characters sounded as though they were talking off script, and there were some culture references that sounded forced and out of place. It was quick to immerse myself back in to the film even after periods of unusual dialogue. Overall, it was a good laugh and the bizarreness of the movie is part of the point.

The cast works well together despite my initial skepticism. The movie takes a short time to wind the characters up and then turns them loose on a pretty wild and wacky ride. Sandra Bullock classes up every scene as she always does. And Channing Tatum brings the charm and six-pack abs. If you were not sure about this movie like I was, I'd say give it a shot, and you'll probably have a good time.

The Lost City was a mixture of campy characters like Beth, the book publicist and Oscar, an eccentric cargo pilot, who befriends Beth when her flight connection is cancelled due to a sick pilot. Underlying the mayhem, a timeless theme of living, not existing, is realized by the protagonists, Loretta, the novelist, and Alan/Dash her book model/kidnapping rescuer.
