The Gambler had smart dialogue, intriguing characters, and good actors. It provoked the controversial discussion of culture's need to soften problems and spotlight "disease" However, at times it seemed to drag. I was not used to seeing Mark Wahlberg in this type of roll, so it caused for an adjustment. And I would have liked to see less John Goodman wothout a shirt on and more Mark Wahlberg.

Not much of a story line causing the movie to be flat. The actors did a good job but they just didn't have enough to work with.

Slow burn, and almost worth it in the end.
