Luc Besson said that the Valerian and Laureline comics inspired him to create The Fifth Element, and here, you can definitely see the inspiration. Everything about this film reminded me of The Fifth Element, in a good way! The visuals are absolutely gorgeous, and the chemistry between Valerian and Laureline is wonderful. The action sequences are pristine and so creative. I would say the highlight of the film is Rhianna's shape-shifter character's dance. It's so cool to watch. You feel like Valerian in the scene. You just can't take your eyes off Rhianna. I would say the only reason I give this a four-star review instead of five is because as great as the film is, the plot feels kind of rushed. We encounter all these interesting characters, but I don't feel like we really got to know them. And it's sad because there are some (like Rhianna's character) that I would have really liked to see more of. But overall, I think this is a great summer blockbuster film and another hit by Besson. I really hope this does well at the box office. In this world of sequels and remakes, it's refreshing to see something new and original. Yes, the movie is an adaptation of a comic book series, but it's one that hasn't been done before. And I hope audiences will appreciate that and come out to support it.

I liked the movie, the special effects were awesome. Biggest complaint I thought some of the acting was subpar. Overall I would recommend this movie.
