I might still recommend it to fans of Gerard Butler since he is always quite watchable. Just not sure this is the kind of movie we want or need right now. Most folks I know are looking for escapism that doesn't necessarily involve mass casualties.

I went into this really wanting to love this film. I’m a fan of both Butler and Baccarin. Both the trailer and subject matter really peaked my interest. The film started well enough. But it didn’t take long until a series of clichés, perplexing coincidences and irrational incidents hijacked all hope of saving this film. It disappointed me so viscerally every time some unexplained plot twist took place hat I literally almost walked away from the film. And as much as the film set out to build a foundation for the audience to empathize with the lead characters’ domestic issues they were trying to overcome, there just wasn’t enough meat on those bones. Although that didn’t so much hurt to film as perhaps keep it from failing altogether. I am really, really upset to report that the one thing this movie got right is that it was indeed a cataclysmic disaster.

The premise was good but the movie was too long with too many subplots. It needed rewrites in order to make it a better movie. Examples: -why didn’t the mom and son wait at the SUV for the husband? And why did neither of them take the car to go to Kentucky with? If Gerald could back up all that way on the highway earlier, they could have navigated where they left their SUV. This lead to the kid being captured, which was an unnecessary subplot. -the cage fight to the death in the truck over the wrist band. There was no reason not to give the wrist band up. The son had already been rejected, they weren’t getting on that plane, especially since the family was separated and no one was leaving without one another. The fight did nothing to advance the movie, the scene made sense to find out about Greenland, but once he had that info he should have given up the wrist band -the pulling the person out of the burning car. The injury didn’t advance the plot & it was pointless
