She has a compelling success story but I didn't like the way it was presented; too often it seemed more like a promo for the 25th anniversary of her album than a life story. I was also concerned about the message it may send. There was candor about the events in her life but too little reflection regarding some of the decisions she made along the way. I assume the intent was to show people they can overcome adversity. However, without reflections, one could easily get the impression that overcoming adversity is based more on chance than the choices you make.

Was expecting more of a documentary - more on from beginning to where she is now. I felt it was more of her meeting up with "friends" and slightly reliving memories. Glad I got to see it for FREE - not worth if you had to pay to watch it.

It was a little boring but I'm not a huge Mary j Blige fan. It was interesting to hear about her difficulties and how she overcame them.

Needs editing and a a more imaginative vs. idolizing director. There's a story in there...it held me (along with the subject of the film...through about 2/3....but the flat pacing and monotonous tone did me in and when I was faced with the choice to watch a tv program that just came on or continue with the film, I opted for the tv show (PBS - mysteries of mental illness). WAs sorry to leave the film...was interested to learn more about the Mary J. but the film kind of covered her up...oddly kept her in the background though the story was all about her life.
