I enjoyed the movie, but the part which took place at the college was confusing.Why di d Adrian want to share his diary with the main character?

Love Jim broadbent. It took a little too long to get going. It was a little slow , but kept me intrigued enough to stay with it. Didn't see the ending coming. Thought it was smart and foretelling.
