I guess it was an anti-romance. There was a lot of comedy but also a lot of commentary addressing the audience indirectly. I don't know if the two genres of serious drama & comedy mix but it was interesting to watch this director attempt to do this. I enjoyed the film but it also seemed like a personal project. Something the director did out of the love for the characters but not light-hearted.

I loved this movie! One of the very best films of 2016! Anette Bening is wonderful in her role as the mom trying her best to raise her teen in 1979. Great soundtrack too!

Hippy times. Funny, true for some families, even today, some mothers/parents have a hard time communicating with their own child when they get to a certain age.

Thoroughly entertaining. Annette Bening is amazing to watch.
