Well made, but OVERLONG. A beautifully shot movie in need of an editor.

Besides being way too long, this movie never really explained why Japan was so against Christianity and also should have explained when & if they stopped the horrible treatment. Not the type of Martin Scorsese movie I thought it would be at all. Andrew Garfield was very good but was disappointed Liam Neeson did not have a bigger part! Very dark movie!

It was a movie about arrogance and the vile acts committed by both sides and in the end nothing was accomplished. I wish there were more philosophical discussions regarding the compatibility of traditional Japanese culture and christianity. The few scenes that explored it were by far the most interesting and enjoyable.
