The bride was disjointed and unfocused. It lacked a cohesive vision, direction and message. It was incredibly confusing Mary Shelley’s role and fit in the universe. The editing and tone was also unbalanced and the movie was not fit for imax as there were too many close ups.

Beautiful sets, costumes, make up. Great acting! But, what a beautiful mess. I’m not sure whether it was supposed to be a parody of monster films or an homage to Lady Gaga in The Joker. I really wanted to love it but meh.

Jessi Buckley was amazing. The film started off strong with some good laughs and I really was hopeful what I heard was wrong. The middle was chaotic and not in a good way. I didn’t enjoy the film. Penelope Cruz’s character was really unbelievable. There was a lack of chemistry with the majority of the cast. It could have been much better with editing. The sexual assaults were a lot. The end scene was good but not enough to save the film. I wanted to walk out half way thru. Big swing but a miss for me.

While the production and performances were good, the inclusion of Mary Shelly throughout the movie was baffling. It was confusing if she was controlling the bride and didnt add anything narrative to the film (granted that is how the Bide of Frankenstein started out was her with just the prologue). When the film focused on the romance it worked. The whole detective subplot and how he knew the bride didn’t work for me. Plus the humor was hit or miss
