Engaging and often amusing, the film tells a crowd pleasingly distilled version of an intriguing relationship. I enjoyed the movie and thought the actors did a fine job, especially Dame Judi Dench who simultaneously demonstrated Queen Victoria as the most supreme diva as well as a relatable lonely old woman. Ali Fazal infused Abdul Karim with warmth and joie de vivre, however, the writing seemed to rely on his good looks instead of showing a multi faceted person. The talented supporting cast enlivened the film and served as reminders of the story's darker, more realistic aspects.

Judi Dench is amazing in the movie. I wish there's more character development on Abdul as well.

A fun chapter in history worth watching. Perhaps a little one sided though.
