I liked what the film was aiming for but the execution was peculiar. I couldn't help wonder why a movie about an artist from Nova Scotia featured so few Maritimers or people who sounded like Martimers. I liked Sally Hawkins as Maude Lewis... and yet neither she nor Ethan Hawke felt at all like rural people from the East Coast. They felt as though they were "from away."

Slow with heavy parts still engaging though
