The film was a thoroughly entertaining, whimsical redemption story. That said, perhaps the film played too familiar with various tropes of the redemption arc. Despite a lot of more serious matter, the film seemed too eager to sugar coat some of the more intense moments while putting a tidy little bow on everything. This little nitpicks aside, the movie was surprisingly funny with clever little moments and some fantastic performances-- particularly from Matthew Rhys.

Tom Hanks was excellent.
