Really disappointed with the Hobbit Trilogy, it does not compare to LOTR

The best of the three.

My son absolutely loved this movie and now wants to watch the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

It's alright - nice conclusion to the trilogy, but you can see how PJ wanted this series to be 2 movies, not 3.
