I thought the Black Phone set a very good horror tone throughout the film. I believe Thames and McGraw really stood out in their performances and have a bright future in the film industry. Would've liked to see a little more Ethan Hawke because if he got some more screen time and better writing I think it could've elevated this film further.

It's a good thriller that could have been a very good and scary horror movie if it committed more to the premise and had a little more grit. It's as scary as a Stranger Things episodes with some F words and slurs thrown around, take that as you may.

I didn't expect much but I was pleasantly surprised. Although I wouldn't consider it a horror movie, even if there are some good jump scares, I would definitely recommend it!
