Denzel Washington has yet to star in a film in which his performance didn't make the film instantly watchable. Roman J Israel is no exception. His terrfic performance carries the movie through more than a few lulls. Writer/Director Tony Gilroy is known for his snappy dialogue and he shows his skills here, though there were a lot of wasted opportunities to truly delve in Israel's character which I would have liked to have seen explored. Colin Farrell is great as a sympathetic boss. A decent film.

Roman J Isreal goes from a self absorbed crusader against the injustices in the legal system to a villain overcome by temptation. Loved the movie!!

It was interesting to see the character development of Roman Israel Esq. Unfortunately, the plot lacked a trackable story line. We enjoyed the antics of a man clearly on the spectrum. But, if asked what was the movie about its hard to say more than well a weird lawyer who loses his law partner and engages in unethical conduct that gets him killed, all on the backdrop of being a radical activist civil rights attorney.

Too slow - it's counting on people wanting to see Denzel. There were so many great opportunities to develop the character which were missed - online critics compared Israel to Forrest Gump, but there's none of the attention to the minutia of his autism/capabilities. Make me notice his way of walking, the PBJs, the pen/hand repetition, the post-its - these were accidental (and audience members laughed at some) - make it key, not something I can miss. That builds the character and makes me care.
