I thought the movie was a great adaptation of the book and a good reimagining of the first film. I believe all the actors were suited for their roles and did a great job portraying their characters. I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to see a feel good movie about perseverance and gaining your independence.

I thought the movie was incredibly well done. It was visually stunning, extremely moving, and did a great job balancing the musical with the rest of the story.

There were many beautiful moments. It is a strong story. I laughed and I cried, sometimes one right after the other. I think it was well casted. I'm glad I went into it without having seen any trailers or being aware of most of the cast. I have a few issues with the directing and editing choices (such as the use of slow motion, story threads that were dropped then suddenly picked up, and the tone and pacing of certain scenes). I rather enjoyed it overall. Thank you for supporting black talent.
