It was a slow moving film, but that's what limbo is. It let you feel what it is like.

Fictionalized slice of immigrant waystation life on an isolated, picturesque Scottish island. Brimming with tender, melancholic truths, deftly leavened w/ dry humor. Amazing that non-Syrian Sharrock wrote & directed w/ such astonishing cultural insight - in no way any form of cultural appropriation. Not for average gen pop audiences, but for anyone who enjoys excellent minimalist acting in service of gently revealed stories. The oud recital is hard earned, but cut too short. Editing overall could have been less abrupt.

I liked the movie but I thought it dragged a bit. I thought it did a good hob depicting what refugees go through waiting to hear if they have received asylum. I think it would be more impactful on the big screen.

It's a bitter-sweet, politically understated movie that makes strong points. The deadpan humor, extreme solitude and their longing for a government's decision was well depicted. \r\rThe acting was good and believable. Also, the cinematography was rather clever. Two things stood out- Having the camera slowly pan and get focused on a place BEFORE the character entered the frame, with sound only, was very clever. Talking between a door made of textured glass was the other.\r\rMy only criticism is it lacked a bit of action/ high drama, but perhaps that's what the director wanted.\r\rVery good movie!
