I understand the makers of this film wanted a timely theme for 2020, but it's way too on the nose. A little metaphor goes a long way when it comes to talking about a crisis, and this film had zero metaphor.

I was definitely expecting more out of this film especially when The Purge and a A quiet Place (one of my faves) are attached to it. There was to many inconsistencies throughout the whole film like whyyyy it would take the main character (sofia carson) soooo long to realize that hey look at that I am immune (insert eye roll emoji). As well as the who in the hell is the random army dude that came out of the warehouse and helped out the other main character (kj apa) from death for no reason never to be heard from again. These among other scenes just didn't flow organically with one another and seemed rushed. There definitely wasn't enough physical action as well. I was also expecting more of an intense climax towards the end that included somehow the daughter of demi moore's character since she was mentioned so much throughout the movie. We were instead left with an extremely corny end scene..lol.. Don't get me wrong I am all for two lovesick souls finding one another but this scene just didn't trigger that for me. The movie gets 2 stars one for demi moore's acting and another for kj apa's abs lol would give it a half (2and a half) for sofia carson's voice but it doesn't let me, I must admit she does have a very good speaking voice as long as she is not butchering a celia cruz classic lol. Which reminds me why is this movie called Songbird I didn't see one bird or one decent song throughout the movie. Oh well.

The premise of Songbird is that the coronavirus has developed in an even more deadly way after three further years. There are so many unanswered questions in the film....for example, how is a society that is so sheltered and shut down producing food and goods that are theoretically delivered by a small group of "immunes" to a city that is so massive (in this case L.A.)? Furthermore, how are poor individuals able to afford to redesign their homes around a UV portal to get goods? Questions like all of these lead to a structural mess, with so many areas lacking exploration or development. The one character who is given time is played by Demi Moore and yet her transformation is tough to believe. Sadly, the central focus is supposed to be on a love story that is also neither well-developed nor terribly interesting.

It looked rushed and was very predictable. The story line was boring. It would have been nice if it was more realistic. The focus should have been on creating a cure from those who were immune.
