As a huge fan of the stage musical, it devastated me that they seemed to rip the script for act 2 out, and take out any mention of the racism subplot against Benny, the looting, or anything else that may seem controversial today. They are important plot points that would give this movie meaning to general audiences, and instead we were left with no real substance and a removal of most of Abuela.

The movie stopped playing with 47 minutes with no explanation. I don't know how it ended.

The fabulous music and danced almost distracted us from the fact that there was really no discernible plot, and we switched off after an hour and a quarter.

It was a nice story, a bit corny at times. I love Anthony Ramos. I wish they had kept all the songs but did a good job with the ones they had. The DACA storyline did not feel fully developed and the protest scene seemed pandering and contrived. The movie maintain the male gaze by focusing the camera on Vanessa’s body the first time we see her which was annoying. The salon scene was the best moment
