too much arguing. Got on my nerves.

A different kind of buddy roadtrip. Many understated poignant moments and some overblown, especially the anti-American theme which knocks off two stars. Del Rio deftly avoids the slapstick version of the manchild stereotype to bring sensitivity, kindness and maturity to his character. Mendez struggled more with his depiction of a humorless angry male but smoothly depicted the growing awareness of his half brother's shared self doubt caused by their father's self centeredness despite the father's protestations.

If I could I would give it 2 1/2 stars. I felt it was very slow starting but once the story got going it was much better and I liked the scavenger hunt clues to figure out the relationship between father and son. I do wish, however, that it was completely in English. The back and forth with Spanish and subtitles made my husband stop watch completely. I think there was too much of it.

I didn’t get a chance to watch it entirely because it kept on slowing down then completely shut down and I couldn’t get back on. My battery was full. Not sure what happened. I couldn’t give a full picture but the fact that my husband laughed a few times (he is Hispanic) made me put a 3 instead of a 1.
