Interesting character study of two souls coping with similar life tragedies while finding a purpose to live against nature's forces. Edie seeks a life of solitude to cope amidst the harsh forces of nature in the Wyoming Rockies. Miguel finds redemption by first saving a near frozen Edie from certain death, and then teaching her how to live and survive alone.

I can understand how someone would want to drop out from urban society after a family tragedy, but to place oneself in the wilderness with limited supplies for survival seemed desperate and suicidal, unless their hopelessness caused them to throw caution to the wind. But, voila! here comes a knight in shining armor to save Edee from starvation and teach her hunting and restore hope to reconnect with people again. This part of the plot seemed more fantasy than reality, but if the moral of the story is to never give up when faced with adversity, the movie made its point. Beautiful Scenery

Beautiful cinematography.\rThe acting is fine but the story was a bit far-fetched.\rStill, we enjoyed the movie.\r

Beautiful cinematography and strong performances by all. Spare dialogue. taut direction and at times brutal environment heightened the sense of loss and grief that needed healing. Storytelling was a little thin during the middle section and passage of seasons and time was muddled. Could have benefited from a few more minutes of action / living. Editing could have been a little smoother here, too. Overall, enjoyed the depth of emotion and compassion without melancholy or sentimentality, as well as the gentleness and respect for others in a time when it is needed so much.
