If you’re not a Will Farrell fan, don’t bother. I was hoping with Reese Witherspoon, it wouldn’t be over the top. There were some funny parts but it was just too much.

Will Ferrell and Reese Witherspoon are entertaining to watch and have clear onscreen chemistry, although perhaps not sparks. The movie is often funny and in rare moments hilarious, but it suffers from not knowing what it is trying to be. Sometimes it’s a little too mean spirited to be as funny as it could be. Sometimes it trips over itself trying to be more touching than it needs to be. Ultimately, it tries to cast itself as a romantic comedy with a relationship between the leads that is somewhat confounding. I liked it but I didn’t love it.
