High-quality acting, directing & cinematography, but a little too long.

SILENCE has a hypnotic quality and is a very patient film. I totally understand why Scorsese took his time unraveling the story to us--he waited over 40 years to make it. Forget the flashy camerawork and kinetic editing we've grown to love from Marty's films, SILENCE is quite still and dreamlike. It makes a profound statement about compassion, faith and purpose.

Silence is one of those movies that you need to watch. Not because the acting is great, not because of the special effects, not because of a feel-good story, but simply because the story that is told will resound in your mind long after you leave the theater. Don't get me wrong, the cinematography is beautiful and the actors are great...this is a heady movie that will make you think.
