This was a surprisingly good film. The art style for the animated sequences was fantastic. The themes of loss and acceptance were handled very well. It handled the subject matter in a way that wasn't too cliché or relied too much on established tropes.

Very good acting and special effects but while I commend the film for its lack of cheesiness and overt-sentimentality, the film lacked the heart of 'The Impossible,' the director's earlier film and the script could have used a bit more character development.

I'm not a parent, but it is my belief that anyone under the age of 13 won't be able to take a movie like this. Thus the PG-13 rating. I actually was entertained, but I could see the younger ones might have a problem with it....4 stars!

Very well done but extremely dark for something primarily aimed at children.
