Beautiful costumes and scenery. Casting was not up to the quality of BBC productions. I found this movie silly and without the character depth and wit of the original novel.

Pointless movie about a meddling, selfish girl. Bill Nighy was great, in his small role.

But it was not the best adaptation. It was sensuous--glorious colors, setting, music. The screenplay lacked depth...critically, Emma was Jane Austen's best written novel and a movie adaptation deserves a more robust dialogue.

I found it difficult to understand at times like it was muffled, especially at the beginning of the movie. The characters were not particularly interesting. I also found the group of ladies in Red that reminded me of The Handmaid's Tale distracting and I could not see any particular reason that they were even there.
