I know the show so watching the film made me question why certain story/character choices were made and songs/characters omitted. Having said that, I smiled the entire film and was thrilled to finally see it. I'm grateful it was made. There were moments of pure genius in the direction and choreography. Anthony was great. Corey Hawkins was perfect. Loved seeing Daphne Rubin-Vega!

Much was excellent. Some parts dragged. I'd cut LMM's Piragua song - cute but not necessary. Ramos is a star. Merediz was the heart and soul of the film. Grace was resplendent. Smits and Hawkins were excellent. Not crazy about Berrera - her singing lacked. I enjoyed the big dance numbers. I really enjoyed the magical realism bit. The frame was a cheat.

It’s embrace of portraying varying Latin cultures besides Puerto Rico appealed to me, especially in the barrio scenes. The music was wonderful and really caught my attention throughout. Wish there was closed captioning offered so that I could understand some of the lyrics, but still enjoyable. The actors put a lot into it, especially the one who portrayed Abuelita.

A little different from the Broadway show but great message that Latinos belong in this country.
