I was really excited for this film because I had read the book and loved the book. However, I thought that the movie was a major disappointment. The acting was very poor in multiple sceens and the plot didn’t follow the book in a lot of storylines. The only thing that made the movie decent was the comedy that was added by Piek Lin and her family. Otherwise, I would have given the film 1 star.

Almost anti-American. 1st half was all about snooty rich people. Boring...wanted to walk out.

A good flick, not a great one. It moves a bit slowly along in the first half; picks-up speed in the 2nd half and becomes more interesting. A decent, love story & about what constitutes "deep" love & family "conflicted" family relationships.

not as funny as I thought it would be. I thought this was a comedy. It seemed more like a drama. Not a terrible movie but very slow moving and not much new to see here.
