Spielberg's nostalgic recollection of growing up and how filmmaking became an integral part of his life. The film is sprawling, but drags due to the lack of dramatic and believable scenes of family drama. It's loud, colorful, but whether the conflict is organic wasn't convincing to this reviewer.

Fabelmans depicted a Jewish family struggling with bullying in schools and marriage issues in 1950s. Their issues are present day issues on a larger and complicated scale. Interesting to see what inspired young Sammy on his journey to making movies. Sammy was a typical sweet, smart child growing up and trying to fit in. This humble child inspires present day kids that they can overcome and succeed

Maudlin, saccharine, overlong, condescendingly unsubtle, self-indulgent.\rWell acted and shot but it's like Spielberg just can't help himself.
