You’re Cordially Invited is a simple, yet enjoyable romcom that’s carried by great lead performances from Witherspoon and Ferrell. The comedy really works and it doesn’t overshadow the more somber elements that also work. However, the film does overstay its welcome a bit and would have been better with a shorter runtime.

The film makes big swings in the rom com (emphasis on the com) genre, and just about all of them hit in new, refreshing ways. The central romance and story are lacking, perhaps as a result of focusing so heavily on injecting power into the film's cinematography, score, and ensemble, but nonetheless makes for an interesting, easily rewatchable film.
