I think it was a bit confused in tone. It didn't quite know what it was trying to do

It was kind of cheesey. The franchise was already good the way it was.

I have seen all other 3 Matrix movies, and unfortunately this one failed to meet expectations. Way too much time spent relating this Matrix 2.0 to the first movie, rather than spend time on substance on the new iteration. Only worth part in my opinion were the last 5 minutes, that was the real new thing. Otherwise, as the title imply, it was just resurrection of all main characters into new ones.
