Very long & difficult movie to watch - reminded me of Schindler's List but located in Japan around 1680s. Great acting, very believable; but a movie I didn't need to see.

Very powerful film with a strong message about both intolerance and trying to impose one society's values on another

I liked the cinematography techniques; the visual details. The story was complex and in some ways the movie was too long; but it held my attention AND made me think!
