The ending was an interesting choice; not to my liking. The acting by the leads was worth seeing.

I enjoyed it's subtlety but found Tom Courtenay's acting a little uneven although he (or his role) improved as the movie went on. Rampling was, as always, solid but I find her acting style too similar film-to-film.

A married couple preparing to celebrate their 45th Anniversary receive news that the body of his ex-flame, lost for 50 years in a crevasse in the Alps, has been discovered. A gulf spreads between them as he becomes distracted, resumes a smoking habit and searches out old photos and reminders of his paramour. The effect on his wife is one of silent suffering as she now has a forever young rival.

Story is slow-paced and drags on to the point of boredom sometimes. Yes, shocking that your husband didn't tell you that his deceased girlfriend that he had before you was pregnant and died on the mountains and they pretended they were married. She's dead and he married you, get over it.
