It was powerful and spellbinding, and very disturbing, of course. The general public will not believe this is a true story. I had read Slahi’s book, Guantanamo Diary, but this added much more of the story, particularly about the government lawyer who resigned from the case.

This film was well made and delved into the issue of people being imprisoned after the horror of 9/11. We were all so frightened and needed to find out who had attacked us on our own soil and why. My father retired after 22 years in the military with the last years as military intelligence. We were raised to respect and support our country always. Our daughter was supposed to go to England for a semester on 9/12 and she eventually got a flight out on 9/17 with only 3 people on her plane. She was told to not let anyone know that she was American for fear of kidnapping or violence. This poor man got caught in the middle f all that fear and suffered for way to long including when he could have been released by Obama. The story takes you on a roller coaster of emotions as you sort out what happened in that part of history. Benedict Cumberbatch was burdened with an uncomfortable southern accent but still played his part well. Jodie Foster went head on into her part and forced you to see both sides of the story. This is a story that needs to be told and seen by people on both sides of the issue.
