You need to 100% check your reality at the door to even remotely enjoy this movie... there are so many ridiculously unrealistic moments that the whole colonizing mars by 2018 seems like it's a given reality. That being said, the characters are (somewhat) endearing, the sweeping landscapes are fun, and I appreciate that it doesn't insult my intellegence by trying to explain away any of the impracticalities - you just need to go with it. The only way this movie should be marketed is to "tweens" who are looking for a sappy love story, because young middle school girls might enjoy it. I am disappointed that they felt the need to imply a sex scene, when I think that a first tender kiss, then sleeping under the stars (clothed) in their sleeping bags was totally romantic and swoon-worthy enough. Also disappointing that they repeatedly refer to the lead astronaut as being "irresponsible" by getting pregnant, especially when the father is repeatedly credited as a moral genius. Overall: anyone who goes into it thinking it's a space or sci-fi movie will be dissapointed, but if you're looking for a cheesy teen love story, it fits the bill.

Overall, it was a fun movie to watch although unrealistic at times. I felt there was too much going on with storyline, which made most of the scenes move quickly making it choppy at times. The beginning of the movie could have been take out and started with the birth of main character in Mars, etc. I felt it was rushed and we audience couldn't make a solid connection with characters.

I liked the concept and thought that the cinematography was quite beautiful. Especially the scenic shots. I didn't feel connected to any of the characters except the "mom" character (not the actual mom...just the stand-in mom). I thought the age gap between Tulsa and Gardner was too big and it creeped me out a bit. The twist at the end with the father being the guy who founded the program also creeped me out. I thought he was a kind of unlikable guy, so I wasn't happy when he was the father...I was actually kind of annoyed. Also...gardner's mother was the only woman on that mission and was the leader. However, the fact that gardner's father was the guy in charge implied to me that gardner's mother had to sleep her way to the top. I didn't particularly like that implication.Also, I didn't quite get the initial relationship between Tulsa and Gardner....how did they become friends? Why did they fall in love so fast. It was only a day or two. Also...the lines they used were super cheesy sometimes. Kind of laughable and the audience did often laugh in response to lines that....I think...were supposed to have been serious. But then again...I'm not sure they were supposed to be serious. That was a bit unclear.Further, there was A TON of exposition at the beginning and I found that quite exhausting.This all being said, the adolescents in the theater seemed to respond (not sure as expected) to the movie more than the adults...so perhaps I'm just not in the target audience.

The entirety of the film felt rushed. It just felt like they were trying to cram too much into the time constraints. And unfortunately it was a fairly predictable movie - the stereotypical tropes were never ending. Not my kind of film.
