A little trope-y/cheesy but a great way to educate on this important historical woman. A great performance by Erivo carried by a strong supporting cast. It avoided most of the tropes that a slavery movie can fall into (e.g. white saviour, unnecessarily gory/violent, etc.).

Harriet is such a strong-willed woman. She is courageous and kind. This movie shows the suffering of black people in the past.

The true-life story of Harriet Tubman (Araminta "Minty" Ross) as she rose through slavery to become one of the most successful abolitionists in America, by leading slaves to freedom from Maryland into Pennsylvania and later "Canada"; she did this by a combination of her quick thinking and wits, relationships she grew through the Underground Railroad, and by communing with God and seeing premonitions of the future: the film was powerful and seemed to try to make comparisons and parallels to Joan of Arc, through their shared faith and premonitions from God.
