I thought it was going to a kids movie. So I was not ready for the whole movie to be in subtitles.My son got bored real quick and fell asleep. I thought the ending and the reunion with his father would be more touching and it wasn’t , but I did looove the twist that alpha was girl!!!

3D was a distraction and not needed.It was a fairly interesting and entertaining story, once you get past the historical innacuracies.The tribesmen and women were way too groomed and their clothes looked like they came from NorthFace.I would expect prehistoric stone age people to be dressed more ruggedly. Some of situations unrealistic, The dialog captions were very corny and sentimental for cave men. Survival skills not represented well. Stay in cave and eat lion for winter! CGI puppy dumb.

There are many moments that barely work on screen. Saw it in IMAX 3-D and the effects were decent. The acting at times was mediocre, at other times - brilliant. Actor who played the lead and, of course, the dog are terrific. There were holes in the plot and some serious moments were silly, but I was affected by it. Came home and kissed my dog 1000 times (but I would’ve done that anyway.) Cat lovers- don’t bother. You won’t understand. I give it a 5 out of 11.

The title and trailers set an expectation which wasn't matched by the actual film.
