Excellent acting. Plot that kept me focused on the movie. Story was disturbing yet an interesting commentary on the challenges of converting a Buddhist country to Catholicism.

Slow start but overall a good movie. I didn't have any expectations coming into this movie

A masterpiece. Beautifully photographed, brilliant sound design and strong performances make Scorsese's "passion project" all the more harrowing. A bleak and haunting tale of faith, similar to the religious epics of Robert Bresson and cut from the same cloth as Dreyer's The Passion of Joan of Arc.

Martin Scorsese’s Silence is heavily laden with Christian symbolism---the story of Jesus transplanted to 17th century Japan. Beautifully photographed and staged, the story focusses on the personal struggle of a European priest who tries to impose his faith on a foreign culture. The clash of cultures is seen today, which gives the movie a particular relevance. A serious movie for serious people.
